Borderway Sale of Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1166 head of cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale consisting of 814 Catalogued Store cattle and Un-entered Store bulls and Stirks, 252 Calves and 100 Dairy cattle including the Monthly sale for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club.

Borderway was a hive of activity with over 210 vendors consigning cattle and 150 active buyers ensuring another excellent entry of cattle in every department met a very strong trade across the board.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale 504 store cattle were on offer.  All classes of cattle met a fabulous demand with trade flying throughout the sale, plainer types especially saw a lift on previous sales.

The sale topped at £1355 for a fabulous Limousin x heifer shown by D A Moffat, Stone House, Gretna.  Bullocks peaked at £1315 again for a Limousin x, this time consigned by Messrs F Dickinson, Low House, Hesket New Market.  Friesian bullocks sold to an increased demand for all sizes and types to a top of £1055 from Messrs Slack, Cockley Bank, Heads Nook.  With a packed ringside of buyers more cattle are required.

WEANERS-  Another  quality show of 320 weaned cattle saw the bulls very well bid for with vendors leaving highly delighted.  Top price on the day was set twice both for Limousin bulls, firstly from Messrs Hodgson Green Farm,  Shap and secondly from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside Lockerbie both selling for £1120.  The weaned heifers and steers  also sold very well seeing top quality stock selling well but dairy breed types were harder to cash.
