Borderway Special January Show and Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1405 head forward at their Weekly Wednesday sale of Cattle which included the Special January Show & Sale of 721 Store Cattle, 290 Stirks and 394 Calves.

All classes of cattle met a flying trade with over 130 active buyers operating across 3 rings. More cattle are required to satisfy the large ringside of buyers attending Borderway every Wednesday.

STORE CATTLE –An outstanding turnout and entry of 721 store cattle forward at the Special January show and sale held at Borderway Mart.  Trade was sublime with all vendors leaving ecstatic with their days trading.  Top overall was the first prize and overall Champion from Messrs Ewart, Isle of Dalton, Lockerbie who received £1720.  The pre show was ably judged by Robert Blenkiron, Manor Farm.  British Blues crosses sold to £1345 from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton and Beef Shorthorns to £1280 from Messrs Oliver, Walton Woodhead, Brampton.  Heifers sold to a day’s top of £1300 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton. Messrs Johnstone, Low Flow, Wigton sold the top Limousin cross to £1265.  Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.

WEANERS-  A large show of 291 weanlings were forward with an outstanding show of cattle on offer.   Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields Farm, bulls topped at £1150 for two pure Limousins and £1140 for a Limousin x.  Messrs Slater, Rose Cottage sold a Limousin bull for £1115.  Crowhall Farms,  Bardon Mill run of cattle topped at £1010 for a 10 month old Limousin x bullock and Messrs Mattinson & Son, Burthwaite sold a 12 month old Limousin x bullock for £960.
