Borderway Special January Show and Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington had forward over 1600 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 1041 Store Cattle for the Special January Show & Sale, 331 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 260 Calves.

Borderway was buzzing with activity with over 200 vendors consigning cattle to the 3 rings operating. An excellent show of cattle in every ring ensured all classes met a very strong demand in front of over 140 active buyers.

 

STORE CATTLE – On Wednesday Harrison and Hetherington held their Annual January  Special show and sale of 1041 store cattle whereby trade was outstanding from start to finish with top overall being a superb Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Slack, Newby Farm, Carlisle who attained £1400. Messrs Boyren, Hill Park, Ulverston sold another to £1255.  Yearling heifers from Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton peaked at £1225 for a marvellous British Blue cross.  Messrs Fell run of 16 averaged £1090.  Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Mckie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton sold to £1175.

Steers peaked at £1270 for a fantastic 13 month old Limousin cross from Messrs Donald, Denton Mains, Brampton and £1260 for two 12 months old from Messrs Fell, Stranger Hill,  Wigton and Charolais to £1185 from Messrs Grieve, Whiteside,  Hexham.

In the pre sale show ably judged by Nigel Leighton, Overall Champion was awarded to Messrs Murray, Roughet Hill, Brampton with a very smart Black Limousin cross bullock sired by Coachhouse Jewel which later sold for £1260.  Reserve Overall was a Red Limousin cross heifer sired by Brontemoor Max from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton attaining £1120.

WEANED CATTLE: An excellent show of 331 weanlings were forward with a good ring side of buyers ensuring a flying start to 2020.  A great show of 95 bulls were in great demand, Mr Parsons, Slealands sold a British Blue bull for £1100 and Messrs Eve, Stubbsgill sold two Limousin bulls for the same price of £1100.  Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside sold two Limousin bulls for £1090.  Messrs Emslie, Kinknockie run of Limousin x bulls topped at £1080 and £1060 and Messrs Wigham, Hargill House sold a Limousin bull for £1010.  In the steer section Messrs Rudd, The Grassing sold the top price Charolais bullock for £1050 and a Limousin x Bullock for £1035.  Two Charolais x bullocks consigned by Messrs Ritchie, Croft Ends sold for £1000.  Topping the heifers were four Galloways from Messrs Patterson, Low Three Mark.
