Borderway Special January Show and Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1165  head of cattle at their sale at Borderway, comprising of 808 catalogued Store Cattle, un-entered Store Bulls and Stirks and 357 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – The annual opening January sale of store cattle had and increased entry of 855 head. Trade was flying for all classes with the ringside being as busy as it has been for many years.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Northern Boiler Grants and expertly judged by Mr Nigel Leighton, Fairfield Farm, Goole, who awarded the Overall Champion to a homebred beautiful black Limousin heifer, sired by Coachhouse Jewel and was consigned by Messrs Murray, Roughet Hill, Brampton, this later went on to sell for £1400 to the Judge.

Taking the reserve ticket was a red Limousin bullock sired by Sarkley Herald, this was consigned by Messrs Priestley, Cracrop Farm and sold for £1300 to Alastair Hardgraves.

Outwith the show the sale topped at £1440 for an outstanding Limousin cross heifer which was brought out by Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Scalehouses. Bullocks saw a high of £1355 for a great Limousin cross from DJ & SM Thomlinson, Park View Scaleby.

More cattle are required every week to satisfy demand.

WEANERS- A good show of 280 weaners on offer with extra buyers ensuring a good trade throughout.  Messrs Hodgson, Park House Farm run of 11 to 12 months old bulls topped at £1100, £1075, £1060 and £1045.  Messrs Grieve & Sons, Snab Farm sold a Limousin bull for £1090.  Messrs Noble, Walmgate run of cattle topped at £1075 for a 10 month old Limousin x bullock.  Messrs Corlett, Skiddaw View run of cattle topped at £1040 for a Limousin cross heifer.
