Borderway Spring Show & Sale of Continental Cross Steers & Heifers

18th March 2020

Heading up the annual spring show and sale of continental cross steers and heifers held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on 18th March was the Heifer and Reserve Supreme Champion a British Blue cross heifer selling for £4200.  She was shown by Messrs Robertson & Co from Pitlochry, Perthshire and the black 10-month-old entry is a daughter of Strathbogie Kansas and out of a Limousin/British Blue sired dam.

Reserve Supreme Champion

Following at £3800 was the day’s Steer and Supreme Champion a Limousin cross offered by Malcolm Telfer & Helen Claxton, Morpeth, Northumberland.  Their 8-month-old red steer is by the noted Limousin sire Lodge Hydro and bred from a pure British Blue cow.

Overall Champion

The show of cattle throughout the sale was astronomical with many commenting that the quality before them would be unmatched anywhere in the UK.

A catalogue entry of 1007 head were on offer and despite the circumstances the sale was incredibly supported by both vendors and purchasers with trade being beyond all expectations. Heifers in particular were especially dear with both feeding and breeding men prepared to go the extra bid to secure their heifers of choice. Heifers averaged a very respectable £1023 and steers levelled at £1000.
