At Borderway Mart on Monday 12th March, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store hoggs and breeding sheep which saw very strong demand throughout.
Store Sheep – The top price of the store sheep was for a pen of Texel x hoggs from Messrs Rigg, 5 Ellonby Road, Skelton peaking at £90 per head.
Leading prices: Texel £90, £73 Ellonby Road, £80, £56 Ehenside, £80 Millrigg, £78 Mealrigg House, £75, £70, £66, £62 Ashley Grove, £66.50 Townhead Farm, £64 Hallmoor Charolais £78 Ashley Grove Suffolk £75 Merryshield, £67 Ehenside Swaledale £62 Townhead Farm Kerry Hill £61 Fell View Farm.
Breeding Sheep – Included in the breeding sheep was the annual consignment of in-lamb hoggs from Peter Kidd, Briggle Farm, Langwathby seeing the usual high quality run of sheep forward, this run of sheep went on to top the in-lamb entries at £119 per head and averaged £113.70. Following the in-lamb sheep was forward a very good quality run of ewes and lambs at foot seeing a very picky trade with the shortage of grass having a lasting effect. The price of the day was for a tremendous Charolais x ewe from Messrs Elliot, Brackenhow, Dalston peaking the sale at £86 per head. Top price per unit was for a Suffolk x Texel ewe with Beltex x Texel twin lambs at foot realising £82 per life, £246 per unit.
