On Monday 16th March Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep.
STORE SHEEP: Store sheep once again sold very well selling to vendors advantage with Mrs Hind, Parkhead Farm, Bewcastle selling Dutch Texel Hoggs to a top at £110 per head.
Leading prices per head: Dutch Texel £110 Parkhead Millennium Bleu £93 Braithwaite Hall Greyfaced £92.50, £66 Low House Beltex £86 Pasture House Texel £76, £62 New House, £70 Parkhead Cheviot £69, £55 Dinley.
BREEDING SHEEP: A much larger show of 630 ewes and lambs were forward. Topping he trade was a Texel 3 shear ewe with single lamb at foot from Mr D Rust, Denton Crescent, Low Row selling to £130 a life.
Top price per unit was a pen of Suffolk 4 crop ewes from Messrs Taylor, Belmont selling to £94 per life resulting up at £282 a unit, following with a pen of Texel cross ewes with twin lambs at foot selling at £276 (£92 per life).
The whole sale went on to average £210.55 a unit, seeing trade £5 less for a better show on the week.
