Borderway Store and Weand Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward an entry of just over 1000 cattle at their weekly Wednesday sale comprising of 663 catalogued Store cattle and unentered Store bulls and Weanlings, 271 Calves and 76 Dairy cattle in the monthly Border and Lakeland Club sale.  All classes of store and feeding cattle met a very firm enquiry with many more required to satisfy the demand from an ever increasing ringside of buyers.

STORE CATTLE – A smaller entry of 386 store cattle forward which once again met an electric trade for all classes with an abundance of buyers from all over the country.  Top overall price was a Charolais cross steer from Messrs Shaw, Redhouse Farm, Lockerbie peaking at £1360.  Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan sold another to £1235.  Messrs Reed, Moss Side House, Wigton sold a British Blue cross to £1270 and £1220.  Limousin crosses to £1185 for a pair from Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Springholm, Castle Douglas.  Beef Shorthorn to £1170 for three from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna and Aberdeen Angus cross to £1145 from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Carlisle

Heifers peaked at £1300 for a Simmental cross from Messrs Potts, Chapel House, Brampton.  The same vendor also sold the top priced Limousin cross at £1220.  Charolais crosses from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan to £1150 and British Blues to £1130 from Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed Farm, Longtown.   Black and whites sold to £970 for a pen of four from Messrs Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, Penrith.

WEANED CATTLE: An increased entry of 277 weanlings were forward with a massive ring side of buyers which ensured that all classes of bullocks and heifers being a flying trade.  Messrs White & Son, Sandford Hall sold a Limousin x heifer for £1000 and Messrs Routledge, Lordstown Farm, sold the Charolais x heifer for £990.  Clegg & Bennett, Tongue House run of bullocks topped at £990 for a 9 month old Limousin x bullock and £990 for a 9 month old Blue x bullock.

Messrs Oliver, Cawfield sold a 12 month old Limousin bull for £880 and Messrs Sparke & Son, Little Swinburn Farm sold a Limousin x bull for £870.
