Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle

On Wednesday 28th October Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – Yet another good entry of 496 forward store cattle presented to a large crowd of buyers ensuring a buoyant trade was achieved throughout the sale.  Top call of the day went to Messrs Jefferson, Townhead House, Carlisle selling their Limousin cross heifer to £1400.  Messrs Baxter, Eden Bank Farm, Carlisle sold another to £1390 and Messrs Beattie, Guardsmill, Gretna sold to peak at £1350.  Steers sold to a day’s top of £1390 for a British Blue from Messrs Beaty, Durdar Farm, Carlisle.  Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown sold another to £1360 and Messrs Baxter, Eden Bank, Carlisle matched this for another.  Limousin cross steers peaked at £1325 for a pen of three from Blackrigg Farm, Longtown whilst Messrs Stainton, The Garth, Croglin sold another two to £1310 and £1300.  A Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Fisher, Geltside, Brampton sold to £1195 and a pen of four steers sold to £1030 from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

WEANED CATTLE: A good show of over 200 weanlings were forward with a good ring side of buyers which ensured a sharper trade for all classes.  Messrs Wigham, Hargill House sold a 14 month old Limousin bull for £1380.  Messrs Gwynne, Castlewigg Farm run of Simmental bulls topped at £1035 for 3 at 11 months of age.  Messrs Wilson, Scales Farm sold 2 Charolais x bullocks for £1030 and a Simmental x bullock for £1005.
