Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1051 head of cattle at their weekly Wednesday sale at Borderway, comprising of 581 catalogued store cattle, un-entered store bulls and stirks,  303 calves and 167 Dairy cattle in the monthly Borderway Dairy Day

Another superb selection of cattle for Mid Summer met a very strong demand with a packed ringside of buyers, many more could be sold to advantage.

STORE CATTLE –  A smaller show of 310 store cattle forward with all larger and well fleshed types selling very well and plainer, lesser sorts down on the week.  Top overall was a superb Limousin cross steer to £1375 from Messrs Grice, Newtown, Carlisle and £1340 from Messrs Lammie, Castle Mains, Lockerbie.  British Blues to £1310 from Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown and £1300 from Messrs Crichton, Rottington Hall, Whitehaven.  Aberdeen Angus to £1275 from the same vendors and £1270 for a Hereford Cross from Messrs Wood, Arnold House, Carlisle.  Heifers to £1310 for British Blue cross from Messrs Wood, Arnold House.  Limousin crosses to £1265 from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm.  Simmentals to £1260 from Messrs Wood, Arnold House and Charolais crosses to £1200 from Messrs A Holliday, Rashfield,  Carlisle.

WEANERS –  A good show of 271 weanlings were forward which included 124 bulls with an increased ring side of buyers which ensured a sharper trade than that of last weeks.  Uskstar, Oakghyll Farm, Brampton  run of cattle topped at £1180 for a British Blue heifer.  Messrs Graham, Thomasdene run of cattle topped at £970 for two Limousin x bullocks.  Messrs Crichton, Rottington Hall sold a 12 month old Angus bull for £1050.
