Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 693 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale of cattle at Borderway, consisting of 537 catalogued store cattle, un-entered store bulls and stirks and 191 calves.
A quieter day in Borderway, however with grass beginning to green up trade improved for smaller, longer keep cattle, forward cattle continue to sell well.
STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale of 346 store cattle all classes of cattle seemed to be sharper on the week with vendors highly satisfied with their returns. Topping the sale at £1400 was an outstanding Limousin x heifer from Messrs Barnes, Hutton Roof, Penrith who’s run of cattle averaged £1378 a head, also part of this consignment was the leading priced bullock which sold for £1365. Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton sold a fantastic pen of black and white bullocks at £1120 a head.

WEANERS – A smaller show of 156 weaners were forward with a larger ring side of buyers which ensured that all classes were in demand. Messrs Copeland & Son, Kilfillan, Newton Stewart run of Angus and Black and White cattle topped at £935 for an Angus bullock and £640 and £625 for a pen of six black and white bullocks and a pen of three. Uskstar bulls topped at £880 and £840 for British Blue crosses and Messrs Crowther, West Trailtrow also sold a British Blue cross for £875.
