Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 901 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale of Cattle at Borderway, comprising of 706 Catalogued Store cattle and Un-entered Stirks and 195 Calves.

A mixed selection in every section met a buoyant demand despite the improved weather allowing grass work and harvest to recommence.

STORE CATTLE –  A goods day trading with over 469 catalogued forward stores on offer with best sorts and well fleshed cattle remaining very dear.  Top overall was a superb Limousin cross heifer from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton achieving £1420.  British Blue cross heifers to £1190 from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross Farm, Kirkcudbright.  Stabilisers to £1125 from Messrs Ritson, The Swaites, Brampton.  Charolais to £1120 from Messrs Brough, Clappers Farm, Wigton and £1100 for Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Cullen, Crosshill, Carlisle.

Steers peaked at £1360 from Messrs Beaty, Durdar, Carlisle and £1300 for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Cullen,  Crosshill Farm, Carlisle.  Charolais to £1280 from Messrs Routledge, Old Silloth Farm, Wigton and Limousin to £1240 from Messrs Slack, Newby, Carlisle and £1240 again from Messrs Kyle, Spout Bank, Brampton.  Please advise entries for next week’s sale.

WEANERS –  A great show of 237 weanlings were forward with more local farmers in attendance to ensure that all quality cattle would be much sharper on the last few weeks,  however a plainer show of bulls were on offer.

Uskstar, Oakghyll Farm, Brampton sold the top price British Blue cross heifer which sold for £1300.  Messrs Rutter, Fartown run of outstanding cattle topped at £1220 and £1150 for a Limousin x bullocks and £1070 for a Limousin x heifer.  Messrs Story, Heather House run of outstanding cattle topped at £1060 for a Limousin cross bullock.  Messrs Wilson, Charlesfield sold a Limousin x heifer for £1060.  Messrs Mccolm & Brewis, Awirk Farm, Stranraer sold a Limousin bull for £935.
