Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 30th January Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had an entry of 1146 head of cattle forward. This consisted of 722 Catalogued Store cattle and Un-entered Store bulls and Stirks, and 252 Calves. This sale also included 166 Dairy Cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day. With plenty of buyers in attendance all rings met a sharper trade on the week.

STORE CATTLE – The weekly sale of store cattle attracted a fantastic catalogued entry of 562 head. A great show of cattle was forward to a massive ringside of buyers, with no fewer than 89 cattle selling to £1200 plus, with the sale average for bullocks levelling at £1091.38.

The sale topped at £1435 for a truly outstanding Limousin cross bullock, consigned by Messrs Faulder, Houghton House, Carlisle. Messrs Faulder sold 81 bullocks in total to average £1266, with 30 selling to £1300 plus.

Heifers sold to £1300 twice, firstly for a fabulous Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna and also for a dairy bred British Blue cross heifer from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Home, Wigton.

Cattle under 12 month old met a flying trade, to a top of £1300 for a 10 month old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs W & J Raine, Randalholme Alston.

More Cattle are required each week, with several new faces around the ring again this week.

WEANERS- The weekly sale of weaned cattle saw a smaller entry forward, due to the bad weather. The trade proved dearer on the week, due to a better quality on offer.

Top price of the day was a tremendous Limousin heifer from Messrs I Graham, Rose Castle Farm, Dalston selling to £1105. Followed up by Messrs Eve, Stubbgill, Wigton with a Limousin bull selling for £1100.

With cattle of all classes in high demand, more are required weekly to satisfy demand.
