Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1067 head of cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale, comprising of 640 Catalogued Store Cattle and Un-entered Store Bulls and Stirks, 346 Calves and 81 Dairy Cattle including the Monthly Sale for the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club.

Another very useful selection of cattle in each ring with all classes continuing to sell well before a large company of buyers.

STORE CATTLE – A good entry of 475 store cattle was forward, with a poorer show evident, trade however remained firm for best quality, and plainer sorts were slightly easier on the week.

Top overall was a British Blue cross steer, peaking at £1400 from Messrs Beaty, Durdar. Limousins sold to £1250 from Messrs Dickinson, Low House, Wigton. Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1140 from Messrs Henderson, Cleughbrae Mill, Lockerbie, and at the same money, from Messrs Mansergh, Sneck Yeat, Cockermouth.

Heifers seen a top of £1320 from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan for a British Blue cross. Limousins sold to £1290 from Messrs Ewart, Isle of Dalton, Lockerbie, and Charolais to £1190 for two from Messrs Lockhart, Wicketthorn, Lockerbie. Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1165 for a pen of three from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown.

WEANERS- The weekly sale of weaned calves saw a smaller entry of cattle forward, with a plainer show on offer, resulting in demand being more selective.

Leading the large run of bulls was a pen of three Simmental bulls from Messrs Gwynne, Castlewigg Farm, Newton Stewart selling for £1000.
