Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had an entry of  just under 1200 head of cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale, comprising of 691 catalogued store cattle and un-entered store bulls and stirks 297 calves and 205 dairy cattle in the monthly Borderway Dairy day.

A great show of cattle were forward in every ring and once again all classes of cattle were keenly bid for by a large company of buyers in attendance at Borderway.

STORE CATTLE – The weekly sale of store cattle which attracted a catalogue entry of 471 head.  All classes met an exceptional demand with returns seen to be £40-£50 up on the week.  Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Renwick topped the sale with an outstanding Limousin cross heifer which sold for £1390, his run of four heifers averaged an incredible £1337.50  Bullocks sold to a top of £1245 on two occasions, both for Limousin crosses firstly from  Messrs Morton, Church Farm, Gamblesby and secondly from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill, Aikton.  More cattle could have been sold to vendor’s advantage with entries invited for next’s week sale.

WEANERS- A very similar show of weaned cattle were forward seeing a very strong ringside of buyers once again.  Grazing cattle saw a lift on the week with smaller cattle very competitively bid for.  Top price on the day was for two Limousin cross bulls from Messrs Johnston, Orton Hall peaking the sale at £1040.  All cattle were in high demand and more could have been sold with ease.
