Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1220 Cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale at Borderway, comprising of 979 catalogued Store Cattle, Un-entered Young Bulls and Stirks and 241 Calves.

With good numbers in every section a large company of buyers bid freely in each ring ensuring a very buoyant trade for all classes of store and feeding cattle.

STORE CATTLE – The store cattle sale attracted another bumper entry of 619 head.  Overall a plainer show than previous weeks but another massive ring side of buyers were on hand to ensure all classes sold to excellent rates.  Messrs Smith, Gallhill, Canonbie sold the top priced animal of the day, an outstanding Limousin x bullock at £1345.  Messrs Donaldson, East Park, Crofton headed up the heifer section with a fabulous Limousin x heifer at £1325. Native cattle sold to £1185 for a pen of 4 Aberdeen Angus x bullocks from Messrs Holliday, New Bampton, Wigton.  Black and white bullocks sold to £1115 for a marvellous pen of four brought forward by Messrs Neills & Sons, Thornington Farm, Jedburgh.

WEANERS-  A large show of 360 weanlings were forward with a great show on offer to a large ring side of buyers which ensured the best trade of the year so far.  Messrs Raine, Randalholme run of 10 month old Limousin x and British Blue x bullocks and heifers topped at £1070 for a Limousin x bullock and £1000 for a British Blue x heifer.  Messrs Lord, The Bog run of cattle topped at £1000 for a 9 month old British Blue bullock.  Messrs Slater, Rose Castle sold an 8 month old Limousin bull for £990 and also Messrs Noble Walmgate sold an 8 month old Limousin bull for the same money.
