Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward at their weekly Wednesday sale an entry of over 1300 cattle comprising of 941 catalogued store cattle, unentered store bulls and stirks, 365 calves and 1 Dairy cow.

STORE CATTLE – The main September sale of 711 store cattle proved a success with a full ringside of active buyers and plenty of quality cattle to choose from although plainer types remain harder to cash but all others would be sharper again on the week

Top overall was a Limousin female from Messrs Graham, Rose Castle, Carlisle attaining £1315.  British Blues to £1300 from Messrs Armstrong, High Tarns, Wigton.   Steers peaked at £1255 for a Limousin from Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, and £1235 from Messrs Dean, Kirkhouse, Brampton for another, Charolais to £1165 from Messrs Baty, Broomhill, Carlisle and £1160 for another from Messrs Longlands, Tone Hall, Hexham.  A Special prize for the highest pen of 4 or more cattle was won by Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Carlisle selling a pen of 4 Charolais crosses to £1155 per head.

WEANED CATTLE: Once again a good show of 230 weaners were on offer with extra buyers coming forward which ensured that all quality cattle were in great demand.  Messrs Wheatley & Son, Home Farm, Penrith sold a British Blue x cow and bull calf for £1300.  Messrs Pattinson Bonshawside sold a Limousin bull for £1045.  Messrs Morrell, Towthrope Manor Farm sold a Belted Galloway bullock for £940 and Messrs Carlile, Fowrass Farm, sold the top priced Limousin x heifer for £920.
