Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had an entry of 991 Cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale at Borderway, comprising of 637 catalogued Store Cattle, Un-entered Young Bulls and Stirks and 257 Calves.  Also this day was the Borderway Monthly Dairy day with an entry of 97 cows.

STORE CATTLE – A smaller show of 370 forward stores presented to the usual massive crowd of prospective purchasers ensuring trade was far sharper to that of previous weeks.  Top overall on the day was a pen of three British Blue cross heifers from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton attaining £1500 and £1360 for another.  Limousins to £1340 for two from Messrs Ivinson, Ingledene, Penrith and £1300 from Messrs Wood, Arnold House, Carlisle.

Steers peaked at £1395 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle.  The same vendor also sold the top Limousin crosses to £1390 for two and top overall average selling 8 bullocks to level at £1346.  Charolais to £1285 from Messrs Stobart, The Square, Carlisle.  Black and Whites peaked at £1090 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Harrison, Dundraw Farm, Wigton and £1030 for another from Messrs Neil, Thornington Farm, Kelso.

WEANERS-  A smaller show of 267 weanlings were forward with a good ring side of buyers which ensured all classes being good to sell.  A great show of bulls were on offer with a trade to match.  Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales run of pure Limousin bulls topped at £1230 and averaged £1053.  Messrs Cleasby, Linden House run of 17 pure Limousin bulls topped at £1200 and averaged £1137.  Messrs Cleasby also sold a pure Limousin heifer for £1050. Messrs Martin, Hesleywell run of 9-10 month old bullocks and heifers topped at £1000 for a Limousin x bullock.
