Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 865 head at their Weekly Wednesday sale comprising of 622 catalogued store cattle and un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 243 calves.

A huge company of buyers in every ring ensured all classes of forward, growing and rearing cattle met a marvellous trade as demand strengthens week on week.

Many more cattle of all classes could be sold to advantage.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly store cattle sale saw another great entry of 420 head sold.  All classes met a flying trade with the ringside packed with potential purchasers.

The sale topped at £1400 for a splendid Limousin x heifer shown by Messrs F & A Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Colby, Penrith who sold another at £1315 with their run of 8 averaging £1230.63.  Bullocks sold to a top of £1235 for a cracking pair of Limousins shown by Messrs Todd, Longhurst, Brampton.  Native cattle sold to £1120 for an Angus bullock from Messrs Cairns, Windynook, Armathwaite.  Dairy bullocks sold to £1075 for a great Holstein Friesian from Messrs Scott, Carrick Dean, Maryport.  Young cattle were sold to a top of £1060 for a beautiful Limousin x 10 month old heifer from Messrs Raine, Randalholme who also sold a pair of 7 month old Blue bullocks at £1035 with the run of five 7-10 month old bullocks and heifers selling to average £1018.

WEANED CATTLE: A great show of 202 weaned cattle were forward with a great show of quality on offer to a large ring side of buyers which resulted in a flying trade for all classes.

Messrs Dent, Beamwham run of 9-12 month old Limousin cross bullocks topped at £1020 and £970 (x3) and £960 (x2).  Messrs Mattinson & Sons, Burthwaite sold 9 month old Limousin cross bullocks for £930 and £900 (x2).  In the heifer section Messrs Wilson, Street Head sold a Limousin for £990 and Messrs Pinguey, High House sold again Limousin crosses for £965 (x3) and £945.  Messrs Graham, Wallhead run of bulls topped at £925 (x2) £915 (x4) Blue cross and Limousin cross bulls at 10 months of age.  Messrs Johnston & Son, Orton Hall sold a 10 month old Limousin cross bull for £925.
