Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

At Borderway Mart on Wednesday 3rd June, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE:  Once again a very good show of 463 store cattle were forward for the time of year, and trade was remarkable. Top overall was a pen of Limousin cross steers from Messrs Crowther, West Trailtrow, Lockerbie, achieving £1330. British Blues sold to £1270 from Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown.

Welsh Black crosses sold to £1255 from Messrs Horn, Barton Dale, Penrith, with Charolais to £1230 from Messrs Crowther, Spittalriddinghill, Annan.  Aberdeen Angus sold to a top of £1200 from Messrs Bowman, Brampton Fell, Brampton.

Heifers peaked at £1300 for a Limosuin cross from Messrs Brown, Willows, Workington. Simmentals sold to £1240 from Messrs Lockhart, Wicketthorn, Lockerbie. British Blues to £1190 from Messrs Edgar, Woodhouse, Carlisle, and Herefords to £1135 from Messrs Leak, Hill Farm, Holmrook.

Black and whites peaked at £1145 for a pen of four from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns, Annan. Messrs Crowther, West Trailtrow, Lockerbie sold the top British Friesian to £995.

WEANED CATTLE:  A great show of 230 stirks were forward to a great trade, with Miss Karen Henshall, Sarkshields Farm selling an outstanding Limousin bull for £1530. Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields Farm also sold a Limousin bull this time, selling to £1180.Messrs Reay & Son, West Moorhouse sold a Limosuin cross bull for £1040.

Mrs Sheila Thomlinson, Park View sold two Limousin bulls for £980.Messrs Todd & Son, The Craggs sold two British Blue bulls for £940.Messrs Smith, Campingholm sold an Aberdeen Angus bull for £915.

Messrs Todd & Son, The Craggs sold a 13 month old Limosuin cross heifer for £1210. East Haydon Farms run of cattle topped at £1110 for a British Blue cross. Messrs Fletcher, Muirston Farm run of cattle toped at £1100 for three British Blue crosses. Finally Messrs Dixon, Hedley East Farm sold a Limosuin cross bullock for £990.
