At Borderway Mart on Wednesday 19th August, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE: A fantastic entry of 847 store cattle were forward on what is better known as the Anniversary week. Trade from start to finish was a spectacle and proves the confidence in the beef industry at this current time.

Charolais from Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Brampton topped at £1420 and £1400 for two from Messrs Baty, Broomhill, Carlisle. British Blue crosses from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth sold to £1400, and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1380 from Messrs Kidd, Briggle Farm, Penrith.

Heifers were in high demand, and topped at £1440 twice, firstly by Messrs Baty, Broomhill for a Charolais and secondly by Messrs Lawson, Roe Farm, Carlisle for their Limousin cross. Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill, Hawick sold the top priced Blonde cross to £1420. Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Baty, Broomhill to £1320. Simmentals from Messrs Arthur, Somerton, Lockerbie sold to £1310, and finally British Blue crosses from Messrs Gordon, Waterside, Alford to £1240.
