Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

At Borderway Mart on Wednesday 23rd September, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of store cattle

STORE CATTLE: At the weekly sale of 600 store cattle which incorporated the Special September strong cattle section,  Overall trade was very satisfactory with the best end of cattle, both confirmation and finish wise selling to extreme rates plainer and more weathered types remain slightly limited in value.  In all 72 cattle sold in excess of £1200 with 30 of these surpassing £1300.  Topping the days trade at £1430 was an exceptional Charolais x bullock from Messrs Kyle, Spoutank, Walton who also sold a pen of three at £1410 and claimed the special prize for the highest price pen of four or more with a truly outstanding pen of Charolais selling at £1350 with the run of 29 14-16 months bullocks averaging £1239.66.  Heifers sold to £1370 for a shapely Limousin from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller show of 172 weaned calves were forward with fewer buyers around which resulted in the trade being less on the week.  Messrs Wilson, Scales Farm sold a Charolais x bull for £1030.  Messrs McIntyre, Glenleas sold 4 Simmental x bullocks for £950.  In the heifer section Messrs Graham & Sons, Barnglies sold Aberdeen Angus for £950 and £935 (x3).
