Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 18th November Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – A smaller show of 300 head were of offer with every animal in the market achieving and exceeding its maximum potential value.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth brought a marvellous run of Limousin cross bullocks to top today’s trading at £1560 with another at £1500 to average £1457 for six.

Native bullocks sold to £1300 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna who sold another pair at £1285.  Young cattle topped at £1280 for an exceptional yearling Limousin from Messrs Hope, Albierigg, Canonbie.  Dairy bullocks sold to £1125 for a Holstein from D & J Errington, Annfield, Cockermouth.  Gretna House Farms  sold a fabulous run of eight Charolais heifers to top the section at £1380 for a pair with the run levelling at £1293.75.  Limousin heifers sold to £1300 for a real cracker from Messrs Batty, Dry Evers, Penrith with two younger excellent heifers from Messrs Batty, Flimby Hall, Cockermouth just behind at £1295.  Dairy bred heifers peaked at £1235 for a Simmental cross from Messrs Holliday, Newbampton Farm, Wigton and Natives to £1230 for an Angus from R A Slack, Cockley Bank, Carlisle.

WEANED CATTLE:  Weaned cattle were much easier sold on the week with all classes attracting much more demand especially the store bulls despite the mixed show.  Top price bull was a Limousin  from Messrs Reay, West Moorhouses, Maften selling at £1060.  Messrs Emslie, Kinknockie had forward a tremendous run of young Limousin cross bulls with the consignment topping at £1040.

Heifers and steers were also very well bid for with both sections topping at £890.  Firstly for an Angus cross from Messrs Gaitsgill, Highfield, and a Limousin heifers from Messrs Emslie, Kinkknockie.  Suckled calves were also keenly sought after with Messrs Martin Hesleywell, Hexham selling steers for £880, £870 £800 and Heifers to £875 and £840.
