Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale including Suckled Calves

On Wednesday 11th November Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store, Suckled calves and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – A far smaller and poorer quality entry of 371 forward store cattle although trade remains buoyant for all classes forward.  Top overall was a marvellous Limousin cross steer from Amy Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, Penrith who received £1430.  Amy also sold another cross bred steer to £1340.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth sold top priced Limousin cross to £1350 while Messrs Carr, Upper Higham Lane run of cattle peaked at £1330.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm Cockermouth also sold top priced Charolais cross to £1335.

Heifers were seen to peak at £1360 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie.  Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie sold a further two to £1325 each and finally Charolais crosses to £1230 on two occasions from Messrs Dobson, West End, Maryport.  Dairy bred steers topped at £1050 for two Friesians from Messrs Pearson, Wavercroft, Wigton and £1020 for a pen of four from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle

SUCKLED CALVES: A good show of suckled calves was forward on Wednesday with Crowhall Farms run of outstanding calves topping at £920 for four Aberdeen Angus bullocks at 9 months of age.  Messrs Thornton & Son, Dyke Croft run of calves topped at £910 for a Limousin cross bullock.  Messrs Dent, Beamwham calves topped at £910 for two 8 month old Limousin cross bullocks.  Messrs Lamb, High Troweir Farm sold the top priced Limousin cross heifer for £830.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller entry of weaned cattle were forward with trade for bulls steady with fewer buyers in attendance but weaned steers and heifers were good to cash.  Top price of the day was paid for a pair of Pure Limousin bulls from Mr S Wilson, Corby Hill, Carlisle topping at £1035. Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains, Brampton topped with some excellent Charolais steers at £910.
