Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1085 cattle at their weekly Wednesday sale at Borderway, comprising of 700 catalogued store cattle, un-entered store bulls and stirks, 284 calves and 101 dairy cattle including 96 in the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club.

Borderway was a hive of activity as nearly 200 customers consigned cattle ensuring a good entry in each department, trade proved to be a shade sharper all through with over 150 active buyers operating across 3 rings.

STORE CATTLE –  A good entry and show of 432 store cattle presented to a larger ring side of purchasers seeing smaller cattle sharper on the week.

Top overall was a superb Charolais cross steer from Messrs Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Wigton who attained £1360, the same vendor sold the top priced British Blue cross to £1280.  Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1270 twice from Messrs Corrie, Shank Castle, Carlisle.  Heifers peaked at £1195 for two Limousin crosses from Messrs Coates, Beckhall, Canonbie and £1175 for Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Henderson, Park House, Carlisle

Black and whites peaked at £1045 for a pen of four Friesians from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle.  More could have been sold to vendor’s advantage.  Please forward entries to the Main Office.

WEANERS –  A good show of 268 weanlings were forward which included 140 bull stirks.  Messrs Roe, Croft House run of Limousin bulls averaged £1108 and topped £1185 x 3 and £1110 x 2.  Messrs Noble, Walmgate run of stirks topped at £990 for two Limousin x bullocks and £970 for Limousin x heifers.
