Borderway Store and Weanling Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 706 head of cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale consisting of 447 catalogued Store cattle, Un-entered Store bulls and Stirks, 257 Calves and 1 Dairy heifer.

Despite weather favouring grass work and The Great Yorkshire Show, buyers were plentiful for another very useful show of all classes of cattle.

STORE CATTLE – A very good entry of 280 store cattle for the second week in July with all classes every bit as good to sell as normal.   Top overall were heifers  peaking at £1360 for a Limousin crosses from Messrs JH & RM Lloyd, Fishergill, Wigton and also  Messrs LE Grice & Son, Newtown, Carlisle.  Messrs R & A Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown sold the top priced British Blue cross heifers to £1280 and £1210.

Steers were seen to peak at £1350 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Grice, Newtown once again and another to £1300.   Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle sold to a top of £1315. British Blues to £1295 from Messrs R & A Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown and £1260 from Messrs JH & I Dockray, Blackdyke, Wigton.  Aberdeen Angus crosses remain excellent to sell and peaked at £1185 for a pen from Mr Harrison, Eden View, Carlisle.  A plainer offering of Black and Whites forward seen to top of £955 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs MJL Simpson & Son, Waingate Head, Carlisle
