Borderway Store Cattle & Weanling Sale

On Wednesday 4th November Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – Another big day at Borderway saw an entry of 474 head forward.  Some quality consignments of cattle on the catalogue brought forward extra buyers giving a lift in trade the whole sale through.  A total of 66 cattle sold in excess of £1200 with 23 of this passing £1300.  Topping the sale at £1455 was an absolute peach of a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs A Bunting & Son, Midtown Farm, Dumfries.  Messrs Hamilton, Bee Edge Farm, made the long trip from Berwick with a run of 19 Limousin and British Blue x bullocks which can only be described as outstanding.  The leader in this pen sold at £1445 with another 5 over £1400 to level at £1348.68.

Another making the trip east was now regular supporters Messrs J Hunter & Sons, Steel Farm, Hexham who brought 26 classy year old Limousin bullocks and heifers to top at £1345 for bullocks and £1285 for heifers to average £1233.85.  Native cattle topped at £1345 Dairy bred Angus heifer from Messrs Dixon, Whinney Hill, Brampton.  More cattle needed each week with 81 accounts operating today.

WEANED CATTLE: A larger show of 284 weanlings were forward with a good show on offer, however trade would be steadier on the week.  Mr Gary Bell, Haas Side Farm run of 8 month old sucklers topped at £1060 and £1020 for Limousin x bullocks. Messrs Coulthard, Laversdale Farm sold an Angus bullock for £950.  Messrs Robson, Gelt House sold British Blue x heifer for £980 and £960.  Messrs Smith, Campingholm sold a Hereford x heifer for £980.  Bulls would be less money on the week.  Messrs Gillespie, High Stand sold a 10 month old Limousin x bull for £850.
