Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1556 head of cattle at their Weekly Wednesday Sale at Borderway, comprising of 1005 Store Cattle, Un-entered Store Bulls and Stirks, 369 Calves and 182 Dairy Cattle, including the Monthly Sale on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club.
With a large entry of cattle in every section, Borderway was, once again, buzzing with activity, with 3 rings in action and a sound trade for all classes despite Spring looking a long way off.

STORE CATTLE – Once again a tremendous entry of 493 forward store cattle whereby all classes still remain very dear and easily sold.  Top overall was a Charolais cross from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith peaking at £1340 and £1260 for another from Messrs Telfer, High Park Foot, Roadhead.  Limousins to £1300 from Messrs Neil, Thornington Farm, Northumberland and £1280 from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton and same price achieved by Messrs Wood, Arnold House, Carlisle.  British Blues to £1205 from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill, Wigton and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1200 for a pen of six from Messrs Dixon, Whinney Hill, Brampton.  Simmentals to £1280 from Messrs Crayston, Sheepfields, Seascale.  In the heifer section a day’s top of £1300 and £1280 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Fiddler, Barrow Ling, Carlisle and £1280 for another from Messrs Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.  Charolais to £1270 and £1260 from Messrs Fiddler, Barrow Ling, Carlisle.  British Blues to £1255 from Messrs McKie, Laurence Holme, Wigton.  Black and whites peaked at £1100 for two Friesian from Messrs Neil, Thornington Farm and £1090 for a further seven from the same home.

WEANERS- One of the largest shows of weaned cattle were forward producing an entry of 512 head.  Trade throughout proved very consistent with all cattle being very well bid for.  A very high quality run of 215 bulls were present and trade was dearer on the week.  Topping the bull section at £1190 was a Limousin from Messrs Norman, Low Moorhouse Farm, Moorhouse.
Following the bulls was a run of just shy of 300 heifers and steers forward for sale.  Heading up this section at £1120 was a tremendous Limousin steer from Messrs Hutchinson, Hollin Close, Allandale, Hexham.
