Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle

At Borderway Mart on Wednesday 15th July, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE: One of the biggest entry of store cattle in livestock markets for the county for early July saw the company sell well in excess of 450 store cattle with trade excelling vendors expectations with steers levelling out at £1047.96 and heifers just behind at £1005.15.  Top overall price on the day was a superb Limousin cross steer from Messrs Barnes, Hutton Roof, Penrith achieving £1510.  Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth sold another to £1390.  Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Brampton selling Charolais crosses to £1375 and Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton to £1355 for another.

Heifers once again were marvelous to sell with a day’s top of £1380 achieved by Messrs Jones, The Croft, Carlisle from a Limousin cross.  Westray Farm sold another to £1330 as did Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.  Messrs Jones also sold the top priced British Blue cross to £1340.  Dairy bred cattle were good to sell and sold to £1170 for a pair of Montbeliarde steers from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna and Holsteins to £1080 from Messrs Fisher, Geltside, Brampton for two heifers.  Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.  Please advise entries for next weeks sale.

WEANED CATTLE: A great show of weaners were forward with a good ring side of buyers ensuring a flying trade with 19 bulls selling over £1000.

Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm run of outstanding bulls averaged £1154 and topped at £1330, £1240 and £1220.  Messrs Eve, Stubbsgill Farm run of Limousin bulls topped at £1290 and £1250.  Messrs Robinson, Newhall consignment of bulls topped at £1150 x2 for Charolais cross and £1110 for a Saler cross.
