Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward over 1440 cattle at their weekly Wednesday sale at Borderway, comprising of 664 Catalogued store cattle and unentered store bulls and stirks, 391 Spring born suckled calves, 285 young calves and 105 dairy cattle forward for the Monthly Dairy Day.

Borderway was extremely busy as over 200 vendors consigned stock and well in excess of 180 active buyers contributed to an excellent days trading with all classes of cattle showing a lift in value.

STORE CATTLE – A good entry of 458 store cattle forward resulting in the dearest trade seen for some time.  Top overall was a Limousin cross steer at £1170 from Messrs Stainton, The Garth, Carlisle.  Charolais sold to £1140 for Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith and British Blues from Messrs Watson, Beech House, Brampton peaked at £1135.

In the heifer section top overall was a British Blue from Messrs Robinson, Bridgend Farm, Keswick attaining £1155.  Charolais crosses from Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith selling at £1140 and Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby sold two Limousin crosses to £1125.

SUCKLED CALVES: A mixed show of 391 suckled calves were forward with a great ring side of buyers for all classes.  Mr Gary Bell, Haas Side Farm run of outstanding suckled calves topped at £1070 x2 £1040 x2 £1020 x6 and £1000 x11 for Limousin x bullocks and £1020 for a Limousin x heifer.  Messrs Furlong & Co, Ridley Farm sold the top priced Blue x Bullock for £1030.  Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales sold a Limouisn x bull for £1030.

WEANED CATTLE: At the weekly sale of bulls and weaners a good entry of 206 were forward. Well fleshed cattle continue to be good to sell and bulls were in strong demand.  Topping today’s sale at £1230 was an outstanding Pure Limousin bull from Messrs Knox, Cragside, Kelso.   The same consignor also sold another Pure bull to £1170.  Another great run of again pure Limousin bulls came from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside to average £1000.  A great run of 10 Angus cattle from Messrs Anderson, Towford Farm sold to top at £960 and averaged £820.
