Borderway Weekly Sale of Calves

15th May 2019

On Wednesday 15th May Harrison & Hetherington Limited held their Annual Spring show and sale of young calves.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Genus, and ably judged by Mr Archie McBride, who awarded the champion rosette to Messrs AG Balmer, Forest Farm, Brough, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria with a tremendous heifer calf sired by a homebred Charolais cross British Blue bull achieving £450.

Taking the Reserve was a black Limousin cross heifer achieving £395 and was consigned by Messrs J Forrest & Son, Meinfoot Farm, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie.

A smaller entry of 204 were forward with a plainer show on offer but again were all in high demand with new buyers forward. Top price of £500 was a strong Beef Shorthorn bull from Messrs Wilson, Boreland of Balmaghie, Castle Douglas.  Strong black and whites were good to sell with younger calves slightly easier.
