On Tuesday 9th October Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual Show and sale of Mountain ewes within Broughton Auction Mart, whereby a show of 2500 ewes and gimmers were forward.
The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by TM Bowes and David Johnson Agricultural Engineers, and was judged by noted local breeder Mr Tom Rebanks who awarded the Championship to the 1st prize pen of Herdwick ewes from Messrs A Hartley Ltd, Turner Hall which went on to sell for £110 to Hetty Huthchinson, Forret In Teesdale. It was the first prize pen of Herdwick shearlings that topped the sale at £220 per head, which sold to Mr C Hartley, Barr Field. Completing a clean sweep in the show, Messrs A Hartley Ltd also won 1st prize and top prices Swaledale, which sold to £75 to Mr D Nesbitt, Wasdale.
The trade throughout the sale remained steady, resulting in an average of £37.48 (-£7.18) which on the year is a pleasing result.
