At Broughton Mart on Tuesday 23rd October, Harrison & Hetherington held their principal sale of store and feeding sheep.
A large entry of Fell lambs were forward although a mixed show was on offer. A very large ringside of buyers demand for lambs was good with all lambs selling to the vendors advantage.
Herdwick lambs saw a very good trade with the top price of £33.50 being obtained twice, firstly for a pen of 20 from Messrs McCartney, Boon Crag, Coniston and secondly for a pen of 21 from High Stile Partners, Colwith Orchard, Little Langdale. Many pens sold over £29 to average 753 Herdwick wethers at £28.29.
The top price of the day was for a pen of 17 Beltex cross lambs from Clare & Lee Whitaker, Moorlands Cottage, School Road, Kirkby in Furness selling at £60 per head.
