Broughton Show and Sale of Herdwick and Swaledale Rams

On Tuesday 27th September Harrison and Hetherington conducted the annual show and sale of Herdwick and Swaledale  rams within Broughton Auction Mart.

HERDWICK RAMS: The Herdwick pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Tony Sharp, Foxfield, Broughton In Furness, Harrison and Hetherington and Furness & South Cumberland Supply Association Ltd. Judging fell in capable hands of Mr Sam Hodgson, Glencoyne and Mr Mark Cooper, Troughton Hall.

Judging of Herdwick Rams

Herdwick rams saw a good clearance rate, with quality sorts well in demand, however the poorer end proved harder to place. The sale topped at 4000gns for the leading entry from the ted breeder, Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall, which sold to James Rebanks. The days Champion came from Messrs Harryman, The Galleon with a 2 shear ram, which sold to the second top price of 1800gns and was purchased by one of the judges Messrs Hodgson, Glencoyne.

 The Swaledale pre sale show was sponsored by The Furness and South Cumberland Association Ltd and judging was carried out by Mr Michael Longworth, North Lees Farm, Sheffield.

The trade was brisk from start to finish with close to 100% clearance rate. The sale topped at £900 for the Reserve Champion, and 1st prize 2 shear ram from Messrs Joe Capstick, Fellside, Bootle, which was purchased by Messrs McWilliam, Fold Farm. The Champion prize was awarded to Messrs Lightfoot, Ghyllside, with a shearling ram selling to £800 and was purchased by Messrs Postlethwaite, Kendall Ground.
