Carlisle Annual Show and Sale of Dexter cattle

The Annual Show and Sale of Dexter cattle, held at Borderway Mart on behalf of the Border Dexter Cattle Group experienced a solid demand from a bustling ringside which saw the centre record surpassed with a £2,000 call.

 

Harron Loyal Commando – £2,000

Commanding the record sum was Harron Loyal Commando, an 18-month n-short bull consigned by Mrs V Schofield, Ivegill, Cumbria.  Homebred on both sides of the pedigree, a maternal brother to a bull exported to Germany in 2008, he heads to Ascog, Isle of Bute to join the Burnside Herd.

 

Trading at £900, and leading the prices in the female section, was Planetree Oreithyia from S & K Darnbrook.  A 2009 born Valentine Ignatius daughter, she sold with her Breoch Ptarmigan sired heifer calf at foot.  The powerful outfit, the dam having again run with Ptarmigan, caught the eye of Messrs AR Rollinson, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. 

 

Nithsdale Dougal, from Dominic Smith, Dumfriesshire, was next in line selling for £860.  The Cajoro Dejay son, who had earlier stood 2nd prize in the pre-show bull class, was kcked down to Mr MI Gray, Girvan, Ayrshire.

 

Female and Overall Champion Planetree Medea – £820

Rounding off a successful day for the Darnbrook’s consignment was Planetree Medea, who sold for £820 after capturing the Female and Overall Champion rosettes at the pre-sale show.  Ather daughter of Valentine Ignatius, from a show-winning dam line, she also sold having run with Breoch Ptarmigan.  Buying this time was John Ferguson, Isle of Lewis. 

 

Reserve Overall Champion Harron Fleur-de-Lys – £450

The sale also hosted the dispersal of the ted Whalton Mar Herd of Mr T Norton, Morpeth, Northumberland.  A solid demand prevailed for the proven females, peaking at £620 on two occasions.  Walton Mar Sheila, A Breoch Ptarmigan daughter, with a Planetree Hector steer calf at foot and having run back with the same sire, was snapped up by Messrs JB & AM McAllister, Newton Stewart.  The same buyers again paid £620 for the next lot in the ring; Whalton Mar Astonia, ather Ptarmigan daughter with a Planetree Hector heifer at foot.
