7,000GNS FOR WHITEBRED FEMALE
A 7,000gn call led the action at Borderway Mart’s Autumn sale of Whitebred Shorthorn Cattle, held on behalf of members of the Whitebred Shorthorn Association.

Falling just shy of setting a new breed record price was Blackburn Twinkle, from Newcastleton breeder Gordon Jackson. The stylish April 2011 born Lochdochart Nemo daughter had impressed in the pre-sale show, where she was tapped forward as Female and Supreme Champion by judge Margaret Ferguson, Barlaes Herd. After feverish bidding in the ring, she was eventually kcked down at 7,000gns to new breeder Mr Ian Archer, Tenby, Pembrokeshire. This figure is just short of the existing record price of 7,400gns. which Auctioneer David Thomlinson extracted from Messrs Fergusson, Barlaes for a Cow (Murtholm White Heather 3rd) and Bull calf (Murtholm Encore) sold at the Murtholm Dispersal Sale at Borderway in November 1996 on behalf of the breed President Ian Henderson.
Following at 2,600gns was Corrie Diamond, a 2010-born heifer from Keith Laurie, Gilsland. Sired by the homebred bull Corrie Reiver, she sold having run with Corrie Herald to Messrs A Murray & Sons, Haydon Bridge, Hexham.
Trading at 1,800gns was Longley Beauty 61st, a Blackburn Monty-sired heifer from Adrian Wheelwright, Forres, Morayshire. She also travels to Pembrokeshire to join Ian Archer’s recently established herd.
At 1,600gns was a further entry from Mr Wainwright; Longley Charlotte 2nd ,a second prize winner from the pre-sale show. A three-quarter sister to Beauty 61st, she was purchased by I & NF Milbourne to join the operation at Walby Farm Park, Crosby.
Leading the prices for the bulls on offer was Parton Contender, from local breeder Andrew Hewson, Burgh-by-Sands, Carlisle. Sired by Barlaes Dictator, and from a homebred dam line, he was secured for 1,800gns by Messrs NA & J Temple, Broughton in Furness.
