Carlisle Berrichon Sheep Society Show & Sale

The annual show and sale on behalf of the Berrichon sheep society, held at Borderway Mart on Friday 31st August saw a top price of 1800gns.

This was for the 1st prize shearling ram and Reserve Male Champion, Janos Sid, from Mr B Evans’ Powys based flock. This ram was sired by Goitre Pocket Rocket who won 1st prize at the Three Counties Show this year. Sid was purchased by Messrs Ellis from Gwynedd.

Following closely behind at 1700gns was Mrs J Bett’s Yarburgh Samsen sired by the Great Yorkshire Show Champion Headlands Bruce. This shearling ram won 3rd prize in the pre-sale show then went on to be purchased in a half share by Messrs Curry from Morpeth and Messrs Powell from Kelso.

Also at 1700gns was another ram purchased in a half share this time by Messrs Holtom from Coventry and Messrs Gwynne from Powys. This was the 3rd prize lamb from Windrush Farming Partners, Windrush Taylor Made. He was sired by Headlands One In A Million and out of the prolific show ewe Windrush Out of Bounds.

Another from Mr B Evans sold at 1600gns, this was Janos Sydney, this year’s Royal Welsh Show Reserve Overall Champion sired by Woodstone Orion and out of a Madryn sired ewe. Sydney was purchased by Messrs Morse from Carmarthenshire.

The Male Championship and Reserve Overall was won by Mr GB Thomas’ ram lamb Gotre 01614 who was sired by the 3500gns Spring Prince Charmin. This lamb went on to sell for 1500gns to Messrs Davenport from Sandbach.

Messrs Cockburn’s Rakefoot Tywin won 2nd prize ram lamb and then went on to sell for 1100gns to the judge, Ewan Burgess. This lamb was sired by Criffel Lion Heart and out of a Rakefoot ewe.

2nd prize ram lamb – 1100gns

The best of the females was the shearling gimmer Burnhope BUR/17/008 consigned by Mr B Evans and bred by Mr J Wilson. Sired by Galtres Phoenix this gimmer was sold for 1100gns to Messrs Ellis who also purchased the top priced ram.

Mr GB Thomas’ Goitre GBT/18/01394 sired by Spring Price Charmin sold for 1000gns. This ewe lamb has won its class and taken Reserve Female Champion in the pre-sale show. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Wallace from Newry, Co Down.

The Female and Overall Championship was won the shearling gimmer Janos Sheila from Mr B Evans, another to be sired by Goitre Pocket Rocket. Sheila was out of the successful show ewe Janos Reef who won Female Champion at the Royal Welsh Show this year. Messrs Ellis was once again the successful purchaser.
