Carlisle Border Leicester In Lamb Show & Sale

The annual Border Leicester Society female show and sale once again attracted huge interest with buyers travelling from all over the country.

Topping the sale at 2000gns was the 1st prize ewe and Overall Champion from regular consignors David and Ian Walker from Girvan, Ayrshire who also topped this sale last year. The ewe in question, BL64U N10, was sired by Lynham Lord Kelso and out of an Atok Atomic daughter who also bred £3300 Alticane Donald. She sold scanned in lamb to Meidrim Mighty and was purchased by Messrs McCrabbe from Co Donegal, Ireland.

Overall Champion – 2000gns

The 3rd prize gimmer from Mary Laidlaw’s Galston based flock, BL96M P7, sold for the next best price of 1000gns purchased by Messrs Martyn from Launceston, Cornwall. This gimmer was sired Alticane Athlete, out of a daughter of Clola Character and had been scanned in lamb to Alticane Altens.

Following closely behind this in the price rankings was another ewe from David & Ian Walker which sold for 900gns. Like the Walker’s top price ewe this one, BL64U O26, was also sired by Lynham Lord Kelso and scanned in lamb to Meidrim Mighty.  She was out of a daughter of Knockglass Cruiser and the successful purchaser was F & R Farms from Ravenstonedale, Kirkby Stephen.

S & A Watson from Muthill, Crieff sold their 4th prize winning gimmer for 850gns. This was BL34R P30 sired by Eildon Rob Roy and out of a Didcot Drambuie sired dam. She was also purchased by Messrs McCrabbe from Co Donegal.  Another from Messrs Watson sold for 800gns, this gimmer BL34R P23, was bred the same way as the aforementioned P30, scanned in lamb to Drennans Dazzler and was purchased by Messrs Watson from Holmrook, Carlisle.
