The Annual Dexter Cattle Sale was held at Carlisle on Saturday as part of the Rare & Minority Breeds Sale. Topping the sale at £3200 was the first lot into the ring, the bull Brenin Llewellyn consigned by Jean Nuttall.
This 2012 born bull bred by Mr & Mrs John Parker was classified Excellent 95 and has been very successful in the show ring winning numerous Championships. He was sired by Llan-Y-Coed Salix and out of Monksmead Princess Midget. The successful purchaser was Messrs Bevan from High Peak, Derbyshire.
S & K Darnbrook’s bulling heifer Planetree Kleio sold for the next best price of £1100. This heifer was sired by Hillgrove Red Kite and out of Planetree Europa. She was purchased by Messrs McKendrick from Cupar, Fife.
At £800 was a 2017 born heifer from Mrs C King, this was Avalon Lady Claudia sired by Canwell Sooty and out of Northbrook Clarkia. Lady Claudia had been running with Avalon Arcadius and was purchased by Messrs Exley from Halifax.
Two animals sold for £750, the first of these was Withybrook Pinchpenny, a 2017 born cow consigned by Mrs C King. She was sired by Knightsway Bill and out of Beechwood Heidi and had been running with the bull Canwell Sooty. Pinchpenny was off to Shetland when purchased over the phone by Mrs Jane Rendall.
The second to sell at £750 was a maiden heifer from S & K Darnbrook sired by Planetree Cerberus and out of Planetree Iris. This heifer, Planetree Elpis, was purchased by Messrs Mitchell from Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
