On Saturday 24th February, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual early spring sale of Poultry, Waterfowl, Hatching Eggs, Equipment, Pigs and Goats.
A catalogued entry of 1516 lots of poultry and waterfowl, 176 lots of hatching eggs and 62 items of equipment was presented to a crowd of buyers from throughout Scotland, all areas of England and Wales, also Northern Ireland.
Heading up the sale at £400 was a trio of Buff Orpingtons which were purchased by Richie O’Rouke from Dalbeattie.
At £320 were two White Wyandottes which sold to N Watson of Airdrie. A pair of White Wyandottes also sold at £240, purchased by Clougher Valley Poultry from Northern Ireland.
The Peafowl section sold to a top price of £300 for a pair of White Peafowl which were knocked down to W Briggs of Langholm.
Two pairs of Call Ducks sold for £300 both purchased by DB Roberts from Shrewsbury. A pair of White Call Ducks sold to £220 bought by Darren Gillespie of Northern Ireland.
A trio of Isabella Leghorns sold for £210 to Joe Davies from Newtown, Powys.
The hatching eggs were topped at £35 for a dozen French Copper Blue and Black Marans and the equipment section sold to £230 for a large chicken hut.
In the pig classes a Gloucester Old Spot Gilt led the prices at £140. Goats sold to £120 for an in-kid female.
