Charollais Sheep Sale

Topping the annual Charollais sheep society sale held at Carlisle was a shearling ram consigned by Ben Radley of the Loaningfoot flock which sold for 1000gns. This ram Edstaston Ubercorn, bred by Mr & Mrs Gregory, was sired by Knockin Shockin and out of a Edstaton ewe by Rainbow Lindisfarne. He was purchased by Messrs Jenkinson from Penrith.

Following closely behind this at 950gns was another shearling ram this time from Messrs Wales’ Thackwood flock. This ram, a substitute entry was sired by Knockin The Nail In and out of a Thackwood ewe sired by Silton Lion King. He was purchased by Messrs Leiper & Sons from Morpeth.

Messrs Jenkinson purchased another ram at 800gns. This was a lamb from Jonathan Aiken’s Carnew flock, sired by Carnew Ullswater and out of a homebred ewe by Rhaeadr Norman.

Messrs Timm of the Wensleydale flock sold two shearling rams at 750gns and 700gns respectively. Both were sired by the same Llwynhywel ewe and out of homebred ewes. This first of these was purchased by Messrs Leiper from Morpeth and the second by Messrs Hoggan from Dumfries.

Messrs Wales of Thackwood sold a further two shearling rams at 700gns, the first, sired by Greenstar Star and out of a Croghan Linesman sired ewe was purchased by Messrs Jenkinson. The second was sired by Galtres Sergeant Major and out of a Logie Durno JR sired ewe. He was purchased by Messrs Sanderson from Kirkcudbright.

Best of the females were two ewe lambs from Jonathan Aiken’s Carnew flock that sold for 800gns. The first of these was sired by Edstation Rockin Robin and out of a homebred Castellau Lord Major sired ewe. She was purchased by Messrs Spence & Pye from Aberdeenshire. The second also by the same sire was out of Carnew Tasmin, a Wernfawr Prospect daughter who won Reserve Supreme Champion at last year’s Highland Show.
