Christmas Stars Texel Sale

A gimmer from Messrs Boden and Davies’ Sportsmans flock took the top call of 14,000gns at Saturday’s (1 December) Christmas Stars sale of in-lamb Texel gimmers at Carlisle.

The sale topper, was the second in from the Sportsmans flock, BGS1702665, an ET bred daughter of the 70,000gns Teiglum Younggun, this one is out of a daughter of the 42,000gns Tullylagan Tonka and sold with an index of 316. Carrying to the 32,000gns Plasucha Big Gun, she sold to John Sinnett, Wetheral, Carlisle.

Lot 484 – BGS1702665 – 14000gns

Second best were a brace of sales at 9000gns, with the first of these being another from the same home, BGS1702759. Again ET bred, she is by Knock Will.I.Am and out of another Tonka daughter. She carries and index of 304 and sold in-lamb to Garngour Alabama when also bought by John Sinnett.

The other at 9000gns was the best of the sale from Graham Morrison’s Deveronvale flock, MGV1701099. She’s a Strathbogie Yes Sir daughter out of a dam by Strathbogie Terminator which is ET sister to the 19,000gns Deveronvale Warrior. She sold in-lamb to the 26,000gns Sportsmans Benchmark and was knocked down to Messrs Boden and Davies, reinvesting some of their earlier takings.

Lot-559 – MGV1701099 – 9000gns

Following her at 6000gns was another from the same pen, MGV1701082. Sired by Knap Yard Master, she is out of a Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter and sold having been served by the homebred Deveronvale Aftershock. This one was the pick of Robert Evans for the Hope Valley flock, Shrewsbury.

Lot-561 – MGV1701082 – 6000gns

Graham Morrison continued a good run, taking 4500gns for another from his pen, in the shape of MGV 1701107. Another ET bred gimmer, she is similarly bred to the 9000gns pen topper, being by Strathbogie Yes Sir and out of a Terminator-sired dam. She was in-lamb to Sportsmans Benchmark and found a new gome with William McCaffrey, Malpas, Cheshire, for the Scholars flock.

At the same money was one from the Campbell family’s Cowal pen, CKC1707772. This twin-born gimmer is by Strathbogie Your Tupped and out of a dam by the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid. Selling with an index of 280, she is in-lamb to the 75,000gns Auldhouseburn Boss and was the pick of Bruce Renwick, Kelso.

Jim Innes was next in the money when taking 4000gns for IJS1701609 from the Strathbogie pen. Sired by Strathbogie Yes Big Boy, she is out of a Strathbogie Untouchable-sired dam and was sold in-lamb to the 18,000gns Knap Blazing Star. She was bought by Messrs Heard, Okehampton, Devon.

As second 4000gns sale came for FPG1701385 from John Forsyth’s Glenside pen. This one is by Sorn Young Gun and out of a Mellor Vale The One daughter. She was sold in-lamb to the 130,000gns Sportsmans All Star and went home with Alastair Beaton, Slamannan, Falkirk.

Then followed a 3000gns sale for another of Graham Morrison’s entry, with this being MGV1701123, an ET-bred daughter of Strathbogie Yes Sir out of a Strathbogie Terminator daughter. She was offered in-lamb to Sportsmans Benchmark and was taken by Robert Evans.

And a trio then sold at 2500gns, with the first being a Milnbank gimmer from Robbie Wilson. This was LYM1702596, another by Strathbogie Yes Sir and this time out of a Strathbogie Untouchable dam. She was sold in-lamb to the 28,000gns Auldhouseburn Billy The Kid and was bought by Messrs Craig, Glencaple, Dumfriesshire.

Second to make this money was a Cowal gimmer from the Campbells. This was CKC1707769, a Strathbogie Your Tupped daughter out of a cam by Castlecairn Vital Spark. Selling with an index of 531, well inside the top 1% of the breed, she is in-lamb to Midlock Avicii and sold to Messrs Peart, Frosterley, Bishop Auckland.

The final sale at 2500gns came when Karen Wight sold WKM1721202 from the Midlock pen. This daughter of the 60,000gns Clinterty Yuga Khan is out of a dam by the 40,000gns Foyle View Superstar, herself the granddam of both Midlock Yorkie and Midlock Avicii, and was sold in-lamb to the 12,000gns Knock Bantastic. Buying this one was Stephen Cobbold, Acton, Suffolk
