On Friday 14th December, Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle held their annual continental in-lamb sheep fair.
Topping overall was an in lamb Dutch Spotted from Messrs Jackson, High Bentham that sold for 1350gns to Messrs Graham & Sons from Hawick. Another Dutch Spotted animal sold for 1300gns this time it was a ewe lamb from Liam Campbell of Ballymena.
The next best of the breeds was the Dassenkop who sold to 1200gns twice for two gimmers from Stuart Wood. These two had both been imported by Stuart and sold in lamb to a Dassenkop ram. One was purchased by Messrs Jordan from Armathwaite and the other from Messrs Lloyd & Son, Knighton.
Jack Whiteford sold his black Beltex x Texel gimmers for 800gns and 700gns respectively. These were both in lamb to the 14,000gns Beltex Ardstewart Coyote. Messrs Jordan of Armathwaite was again the purchased of one of these and Messrs Jewitt from Barnard Castle the other.
Two Beltex x Texel gimmers from Messrs Rennie’s flock dispersal sold for 650gns , both in lamb to a Beltex ram with one going to Seymour Farm, Wigton and the other purchased by Messrs Campbell, Chathill, Northumberland.
A Rouge x Beltex from Ian McConnell sold for 550gns. This was a 1-crop ewe who had been running with a Beltex ram and she was purchased by Messrs McKie from Castle Douglas.
