Darrahill Dairy Dispersal Sale

13th November 2020

REQUEST IS BEST AT DARRAHILL

The Barron family from Darrahill Farm near Ellon in Aberdeenshire dispersed their pedigree Holstein herd at the Borderway Sale Centre, in Carlisle on Friday 13th November.  The herd had a great reputation and did not disappoint with impressive older cows giving large volumes of milk and perfectly balanced heifers with impeccable udders selling from start to finish.

Trade topped at 2,400gns to average just over £2000 for milking heifers with 23 animals selling for or more than £2000.  Buyers from across the UK were in attendance with 87 buyers following the sale online, resulting in cattle going to 11 counites.

Topping the sale at 2,400gns was Darrahill Request Dee.  She was sired by the German Racer son, Request and bred from a VG dam that produced over 12000kgs.  This attractive uddered, powerful framed heifer was purchased by the Taylor family from Angus.

Several heifers sold for £2,350gns including Darrahill Supershot Joyce.  Sired by Supershot and bred from an MVP dam this highly productive heifer was purchased by the Sloans from Ayrshire.

The highest yielding heifer sold for £2,350gns going to the Smiths from Lancashire.  Darrahill Goodwhone Sheba was producing 50kgs per day and bred from an impressive line of cows with huge lifetime production.

The Smith family purchased the highest price cow at 2,300gns. Darrahill Fantasmic Flicker was freshly calved in her third and bred from a special Zelgadis dam that had scored VG87.

Buyers gave some very positive comments on the in-calf heifers and they topped at 1,900gns to average £1673.   Darrahill Kimball Flicker was due to the Angus in December and was a sister to the top price cow.

The next sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 18th November featuring 137 Pedigree Holsteins in the Border & Lakeland Club sale.  Catalogues can be viewed online at www.harrisonanddhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230.
