ROCKSTAR TOPS THE CHARTS AT DARTHOGUE DISPERSAL
The dispersal of the Darthogue pedigree Holstein sale took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 25th November. The Darthogue herd was owned by the Fisher family from the Mark Farm near Stranraer who have decided to retire from milk production. Cows topped at 2,250gns with the milking heifers averaging £1809.
This was a productive herd averaging 9150kgs at 4.25% butterfat and 3.21% protein and was managed in two calving blocks. The first 68 lots in the sale were all recently calved this autumn and were averaging 36kgs with the following 58 lots all due in February and March and were averaging 24kgs. The most recently calved animals averaged £1726 and topped at 2,250gns with the spring calving animals averaging £1435 and topped at 1,850gns.
Topping the sale at 2,250gns was Darthogue WR Dewminnie, she was sired by Warnelview Rockstar and had calved with her second in September. She was purchased by the Dixon family from near Wigton who also purchased Darthogue Z Apple sold for 2,200gns. This super fifth lactation cow was sired by Zelgadis and looked ever part an Excellent cow.
Twenty one animals sold for £2,000 or more including the top price heifer. She was Darthogue CM Barbara and sired by Carldanton Mardi Gras Machine who is a son of the UK Dairy Expo Champion Lavenham Adeen. This recently calved, super uddered heifer was purchased by Mr. Tiffin from near Wigton.
The animals due in the spring sold well to average £1435 topping twice at 1,850gns. The first to selling for 1,850gns was a Warnelview Rockstar daughter to in march with her second who was purchased by Mr Fox from near Sheffield. The second was a daughter of Carldanton Mardi Gras Machine who was due in April with her second and was purchased by Mr Sommerville from near Dumfries.
