Dispersal Sale of the Cultercullen Herd

2nd October 2020

APPLEJAX TOPS CULTERCULLEN DIPSERSAL

The dispersal sale of the Cultercullen Holstein herd was never something the Marr family had ever planned but due to the broken milk marketing system in the UK they sadly had no option but to sell their fine herd.  The herd was averaging almost 12000kgs and managed on a Lely Robotic system just north of the city of Aberdeen.

Trade topped at 2,750gns for a freshly calved heifer, milking heifers averaged £1691 with cows topping at 2,000gns.  Buyers from across the UK were in attendance with 100 buyers following the sale online.

Topping the sale at 2,750gns was the last milking heifer in the sale, she was sired by Seagull-Bay Applejax and had recently calved.  She had a close to perfect udder and was bred from a De-Su History dam that gave over 11000kgs as a milking yearling.

Cows topped at 2,000gns on two occasions for two outstanding animals in their second lactation.  The first was a De-Su Balisto daughter giving almost 50kgs, she was bred back to Rainstorm Red.  The second was a De-Su History daughter freshly calved in August giving 45kgs.

In calf heifers displayed a ton of potential, they were well grown and they all exhibited a nice balance of dairy qualities and strength.  They topped at 2,100gns for a daughter of Netherside Equinox.  This stylish heifer was due in November to Sandy-Valley Piston sexed and was bred from a Sandy-Valley Knight dam who twice gave over 15000kgs.

The heifer calves were in demand selling to a top of 920gns for a Bomaz Daredevil daughter.  This good looking group of 56 calves all born in 2020 averaged £582 with Sandy-Valley Piston and Swissbec Brekem daughters making a big impression.

The next sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 7th October featuring 218 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.  Catalogues can be viewed online at www.harrisonanddhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230.
