Dispersal Sale of the One-Way Pedigree Holstein Herd

NEW DIRECTION FOR ONE-WAY 

On Wednesday 12th September at Borderway, Carlisle the One-Way herd of pedigree Holsteins owned by P&C Headworth, Town Head Farm, Kirkbride, Wigton held stage one of their dispersal.  The animals selected were the most recently fresh and close to calving cows and consisted of twenty two heifers, fourteen second lactation cows, nine thirds and nineteen with four or more calves.  They sold to a packed ringside with many neighbours and friends aware of the excellent quality on offer making trade brisk and highly competitive.

They sold to a top of 2,250gns with cows averaging £1451, heifers averaging £1823 with an impressive overall average of £1633.  Top price was paid for a Baxter daughter recently fresh with a super attached mammary she joins the herd of R K & C A Rudd and Sons of Grassings Farm, Kirkbride.

Next on the price leader board was One-Way Icefyre Mattiris VG86 she was sired by Braedale Icefyre and had just completed her second lactation with close to 12,000kgs and was due again in December to Stantons Ric Red.  It was clear to see why she was one of the Headworth’s favourites with potential to be a Excellent cow in the future she joins one of the UK’s up and coming herds owned by DR & HM Horsley of Woodhouse Farm, Penrith for 2,050gns

Selling for the same price of 2,050gns was One-Way Raided Frieda Red VG86 sired by Buckhorn-Acres Raid Red.  Frieda was a beautiful uddered cow from a great line of Red & Whites with a natural ability to test high for fat & protein.  She w joins the neighbouring farm of Messrs Reed of Moss Side House, Newton Arlosh.

Ather heifer that deserves a mention is One-Way Zesty Mattris sired by Valley-Drive Zesty from an Excellent Rudolph dam.  She was coming near the end of her first lactation due in December to Stantons Ric Red and sold for 2,020gns to KA & PJ Woodman of Hill House, Cumbria.

The second stage of the One-Way dispersal is planned for April 2013 and will feature forty top quality heifers.  Both Paul and Alan Headworth would like to thank everyone who attended and purchased at their sale and would like to wish everyone much success with their new animals.
