Dutch Texel Sheep Sale

The annual Dutch Texel Sheep Society Sale held at Carlisle on Monday saw a new record price of 5600gns achieved by Messrs Pyman of the Thacka flock who also topped this sale last year.

Thacka Cruyff was the sale leader, a shearling ram sired by the imported A Class Act and out of a homebred dam by Turbo Sylvester. The successful purchaser of this shearling was Messrs Wood from Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

Following closely behind at 5500gns was a shearling ram from Messrs Clough’s Pickering based Raindale flock. This ram Raindale Chieftan was sired by Raindale Won and out of a ewe sired by Thacka Rascal. He was purchased by Messrs Cropper from Rossendale, Lancashire.

Messrs Pyman sold another shearling at 3000gns. Thacka Cantona also sired by A Class Act was out of a dam sired by Vanderbilt D and purchased by Messrs Dalton from Brampton, Carlisle.

Messrs Foy of Parkside sold their first shearling into the ring for 2900gns. This was Parkside Captain sired by Kirkhouse Aga Khan and out of a Berwyn Saeros sired dam. Captain was purchased by Messrs Barlow from Holywell, Clwyd.

Oliver Dean sold Kirkhouse Coutinho for 2500gns. Coutinho, shearling ram sired by a Thacka bred ram and out of a homebred ewe by Thacka William, was purchased by Messrs Phillips from Harrogate.

At 2200gns was Arkle Carlos, a shearling from Messrs Wilkinson sired by an imported ram and out of Thacka bred ewe. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Storey from Haltwhistle.

The final ram to hit the 2000gns mark was Kirkhouse Cavani from Oliver Dean. He was sired by the same Thacka ram that bred Oliver’s 2500gns ram and out of a Kirkhouse Yaya Toure sired dam.

The females topped at 1700gns for a gimmer from Messrs Rawlings’ Wiston flock purchased by Messrs Cropper from Rossendale. This gimmer was sired by an imported Bennedict ram and out of a homebred ewe by another imported sire. Messrs Rawlings also sold another gimmer at 920gns to Messrs Stockdale from Maryport, Cumbria

At 1100gns was a gimmer from Steven Wigham’s Hargill flock bought by Messrs McIntyre from Kirriemuir, Angus.
