The Annual Spring show and sale of Galloway cattle was held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday. Topping the sale at 3000gns was the 3rd prize Junior bull from CG Noble. This was West Acres Big Mac sired by Grange Mozart and out of Barlaes Brownie 231st. He was purchased by Finnart Estate, Loch Rannoch, Perthshire.
Best of the females was the Reserve Female Champion who went on to sell for 2500gns. This was Robert McTurk’s Barlaes Robina 46th sired by Watchman of Kilnstown and out of Barlaes Robina 25th. Robina was purchased by Messrs Carlin from Omagh, Northern Ireland.
The Female Championship was won by CG Noble’s West Acres Chimera who is a full sister to the top price bull. This April 2018 born heifer sold for 2200gns to Messrs Telfer & Son, Stocksfield, Northumberland.
Robert McTurk sold another heifer for 1600gns. This was a daughter of Barlaes Brownie 214th and again sired by Watchman of Kilnstown .
Also at 1600gns was the 1st prize in calf heifer Newhouse Lucy 3rd from N & BM Ireland. This June 2017 born heifer was sired by Top of Kilnstown and out of Barlaes Grace 82nd. She has been running with a Whitebred Shorthorn bull and sold to Messrs Weir from Borrowdale, Keswick.
The only cow with calf at foot entry sold for 1600gns. This was Sarah Priestley’s Ben Lomand Yoseba who sold with the Ben Lomand Mhordhu sired heifer calf at foot Brontemoor Rihanna.
Non-pedigrees topped at £1040 for a bulling heifer from JW Forster & Son which was purchased by Messrs Wallace, Hexham.
