Gwynnog Ayrshire Virtual Youngstock Dispersal

21st August 2019

The Gwynnog Pedigree Ayrshire was established in 2001 when Geraint Thomas started investing in some of the Ayrhsire breed’s leading bloodlines as his foundation stock.  His ambition was to form a topflight Ayrshire herd and he has done this and more by winning National Shows, winning Herd Competitions, developing prolific brood cows and now has bulls into AI.

With such a high calibre herd it was no surprise that breeders travelled from across the UK and Ireland to compete for these top cattle.  Topping this special group was Gwynnog Obliques Far Honesty selling for 2,700gns to Andrew Reid in N. Ireland.  Her pedigree was outstanding as was the heifer.  Her dam was an EX93 Perfek daughter followed by Sandyford Honest Blizzard EX94 who was Grand Champion at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair in 2016 and Champion Cow at the McLarnon’s Dairy Cow Championship.

Second on the price chart was Gwynnog Primetime Linnet sired by Gwynnog Primetime.  Her dam was Champion at the Welsh Dairy Show in 2015 and is classified EX93 and is expected to be one of the stars at the upcoming National Show in Telford in a few weeks’ time.  She was purchased for 2,600gns by Mr. Kennan from Co. Monaghan in the Rep. of Ireland.

Gwynnog Obliques Far Jean was a close to perfect heifer displaying a beautiful clean dairy thigh and oozed femininity from nose to tail.  She was bred from three consecutive generations of Very Good dams and was purchased by Mr Lockery from Devon.

Robert McConnel from Ballyclaire, N. Ireland bought two of the stars in this special sale first was Gwynnog Oblique Sandy Rose sired by Hilltown Oblique and bred from seven generations of Excellent or Very Good cows.  Her grand dam was the top seller in the Barr dispersal at 7,500gns and went on to classify Excellent 92.  Sandy Rose was due to calve in March 2020 and sold for 2,200gns.

The other heifer to join Mr McConnel’s herd was Gwynnog Primetime Linnet selling for 2,000gns.  Lookout for this head turner at the National Calf show in the Autumn, her grand dam is the Welsh Dairy Show Champion Laim Linnet EX93 one of the best uddered cows in the breed.

The Thomas family would like to wish everyone who supported their sale much success with their new purchases and look forward to hearing how they develop.
